Spring Fling Must-Haves for a Neglected Lawn

Post and giveaway sponsored by Pennington, but all opinions are my own. Please see below for additional disclosure.

***Update!***

Here is a mini two-week before and after. And we have not yet planted any seed! I’m quite encouraged!

I’m thrilled to partner with Central Garden & Pet for the next few months to share our real-life greening experience with you, AND give you several chances to win $25 American Express Gift Cards. Who wants one?!  Thought so! See how  to win at the end of this post.

We’ve been in our home for seven months now. I’m happy to report that most inside spaces (sans a kitchen remodel) are completed! But wait – spring has sprung, and as we ventured out to our new-to-us lawn, we realized that we have a lot to do! This house was on the market for over 2 years, and the lack of obsessive lawn love was very apparent!

Clearly, our sad lawn is lacking strong roots, likely the result of poor nutrition needed for fast-acting and long-lasting greening.

I did I mention that our neighbors’ lawns look great? Yes, time is of the essence!

We selected Ironite Plus Lawn & Plant Food  because we wanted something that will work fast and help us save face in the neighborhood!

At our home, my husband is in charge of the outside stuff, and I reign supreme inside. So I put him in charge of the project and followed him around with my camera. Ironite comes in both the spreader version (below), and a handy spray version that feeds through foliage and roots formulated with 1% Iron and does not cause plant “burn.”

It was a win-win – he enjoys to anything outside, and I love taking pictures and talking. 🙂

Despite all my helpful chatter, he still opted to read the instructions himself. Men!

He watered after he spread the Ironite. Overall a very simple process.

I have created a new Pinterest board for all things lawn and garden – hopefully you’ll find some inspiration, repin and create your own board!  If you follow this board, I’ll be sure to follow back. You can never have too much inspiration for your yard!

  1. True, a lawn is a living, growing thing, a better carbon sink than concrete (though not as good as a vegetable garden or a meadow), and even more so if you leave the clippings in place, which also reduces the need for chemical fertilizer. And most people find a well-tended lawn pleasant-looking.
