My Dream Kitchen

I wonder…If I had my dream kitchen, would I cook better? Who among us hasn’t drooled over a kitchen in a Hollywood movie, or taken mental notes of a friend’s to-die-for kitchen. Here’s my dream kitchen. I call it “modern bungalow”.

Who among us hasn’t drooled over a kitchen in a Hollywood movie, or taken mental notes of a friend’s to-die-for kitchen.  I just wanted to share my ideas for my dream kitchen with you {sigh}.  I call it “Modern Bungalow.”

Now picture this (with the help of a few inspiration photos):

Dark soapstone counter tops with white cabinets– several with paned glass fronts to display a colorful Fiestaware collection. Breakfast bar and/or an island with ample room for seating.  Below is a home from a TLC project, and a nice assortment of Fiestaware.

Back splash?  For me, it’s a toss up between stainless steel, recycled glass or subway tiles.  Maybe a combo? (sorry, no inspiration picture here – use your imagination!)

Rolling Red Cart for Convenience (if room and needed).  Here’s a cutie from Target.

A must-have for my dream kitchen is a chalkboard wall.  I found this sweet inspiration shot at www.blackwhitebliss.com.  Love it!

This kitchen would not be complete without retro red bar stools.  Here are a couple ideas.

For the floors, I’d like an espresso, wide-planked wood floor with a custom area rug made with FLOR tiles in their stampede collection.  Giddy up ya’ll! 😉

For artwork, I could see a playful vintage print involving wine in some way.  Here’s one possibility:

Now this is perhaps my favorite…a glitzy black chandelier for a little unexpected bling!

Thanks for joining my in the tour of my dream kitchen.  And I’m sure my grilled cheese sandwiches would taste oh-so-much-better in my dream kitchen

What’s your dream kitchen?

  1. The range is a monstrosity from Bertazzoni. It’s a really gorgeous piece of kitchen art and, as far as I can tell, no better than a Magic Chef. The range hood is Faber. It’s actually pretty cool the way it operates — I’ll post a couple of photos though it’s hard to photograph. The hood recirculates. There’s also a window. In other words my ventilation system sucks. I would have loved to run the range hood to the ductwork that runs above the kitchen ceiling (which handles bathroom ventilation) but the building won’t allow a range hood to vent into that shaft. I’ll probably set a little fan in the window for when I cook more seriously. Or I’ll cook everything sous-vide.

  2. Those will definitely look great in your dream kitchen! I hope I can use one of these when we go through the remodeling of our house here in Minnesota. Most of the remodeling work will be done by expert remodelers, though. We’ll just be there to help and stuff. I have my eyes glued on that chalkboard wall! LOL!

  4. I’m loving that kitchen! I really want to paint my kitchen cabs white (just have to find the perfect white) this summer. I’m sick of the aging yellow maple that looks sickly! Thanks for the inspiration photos.

  5. Hi Liz and THI! I’m so not compromising on my next kitchen. And I love the dark soapstone countertops…they look less harsh than granite (although I like granite too!)

  6. Kelly – dream big, and it will happen (some day)!
Lara-you sure were naughty! Too funny!
Angela – if you don’t plan it, it will never happen. Chop chop girl!
Mrs. P – why small wall…go for the whole wall! 🙂

  7. Oh, I want a chalkboard in my dream kitchen too. Actually, my current kitchen (not my dream kitchen, but one day I’ll have one!) has some vertical wall space that I think is just perfect for a chalkboard.

My husband asked me why we needed one….he just doesn’t get it 😉
