I’m not putting up a Christmas tree this year. There. I said it.
No, I’m not skipping Christmas. But we’re moving shortly afterwards and I’m simply out of holiday bandwith to make it happen. But with kids in the house, I have to make SOMETHING happen, so I’m letting our mantel display serve as our tree this year.
I hung little white lights on the decorative screen already over the mantel, and added in colorful ornaments for a little splash. Add two stockings, and voila…a tree (of sorts) that won’t even shed needles. The whole thing took 10 minutes.
So far the kids are OK with it. And I love the warm glow from the lights. In fact, I might just keep Christmas year round!
So if you have no time or space for a big tree, feel free to cut corners along with me!
Happy Holidays!

Talk about a Festival of Lights!
You have pulled together the Spirit of the Season as far as fun, lights and creativity. This will cover any nationality or religious belief as well. How clever to live outside the box. Go you!
Hahaha..this is lovely..and oerfect with a move coming up. We are also moving in january and I am only decorating my mantle too. Happy moving!!
A perfect solution. I went treeless a couple of years ago in our living room. I missed the glow of lights so I just added a prelit wreath and garland with some of our favorite ornaments. It sure was easier. This year there is a small tree back in that room but I’m wondering, is it possible to have too much lighting? Maybe I need to edit back. There is something to be said for this simple look.

This is pretty!
My mom rarely put up a tree when we were growing up–and it wasn’t because we were moving, either. She just believed in keeping holidays simple and stress-free. Sometimes she does a tabletop tree for the grandkids, though.
She taught me it’s okay to make your own rules when it comes to things like this!
I think this is beautiful! Add one or two mistletoe, and everyone’s good!
Gorgeous! and I was honestly considering no tree as well
I like it. A lot.
