I love all fall holidays, but like you…I am pretty busy this time of year. While I adore intricate displays of autumnal hues painfully and artistically created for that inevitable {sigh} moment, it just doesn’t work out in reality for me. So, I’m going to share with you a few low-lying fruit ideas I did this fall.
1. Shortcut Jack-o-lantern
Sure, I’ll carve the real thing closer to Halloween, but as of this moment, I want a pumpkin and I want it now!
So I pulled out my tried and true copper Jack and added some green, orange and purple lights. Voila!
2. Tray-o-Stuff
I love candles and gourds. So, without using any fancy terminology here…I put candles and gourds on a tray. DONE! (Yes, I threw in a glittered succulent not to show off, but because it was already there and I was too lazy to find it a new temporary home).
3. Black Roses
My big easy idea for this year came from Target. Black roses stuck in oodles of wine corks which were already displayed in a glass vase. I did add a few mini pumpkins for color.
4. Entry Way Basics
It’s very hard to be original outdoors without a fair amount of effort.
A wooden retro door wreath is a little different than most dried wreaths. Bonus – it’s easy to pack up at the end of the season and it won’t drop pieces on the ground. Don’t you think it’s a little creepy, in an artsy way? I found this treasure at HomeGoods.
I find that one really BIG mum is more impactful than a half a dozen smaller mums. I plopped this one in an old cauldron we’d found in the back woods when we first moved it. I bet there’s a scary story in there somewhere.
5. Layered Wall Decor
We keep a hanging screen on the wall in the living room (see how easy it was here). It’s a convenient place to hang lights, signs, or whatever suits your fancy. I found this pretty fall canvas at HomeGoods and simply draped it over the top and added string pumpkin lights.
6. Silhouette
Now this could be done several ways – you could actually go outside to gather twigs, spray paint them black and then arrange them in a container as a scary forest on the window sill. Or you could do as I did – I found this very cool light up tree at HomeGoods. I plugged it in and I was done.
It’s sort of cool in day time and at night!
7. Encore Performance
If you had a great idea last year, there is absolutely no reason not to do it again. In fact, you’ll probably do it even faster this year. Here was my big easy idea from last year (instructions here). Because I like an odd number in list posts…I’m going to include it here again.
Once I pull my dead herbs out of these I might bring them back out this year.
You may have noticed that some of these ideas lend themselves for Thanksgiving as well. That was intentional. There’s a high probability that I may not get my Thanksgiving decor up promptly – in which case I’m already halfway there. I’ll let you know if I go any further with it – I just don’t want to set the bar too high. 😉
