Illuminating Mantles

by Susan Jensen Smith on October 9, 2008

While I enjoy my copper pumpkins on my mantle this time of year, it’s the nighttime that makes them truly spooktacular (sorry, couldn’t resist). Think about it…with the days getting shorter, you see your mantel at night more often than in the light.

So when you make your seasonal mantle display, make sure it works for you in the dark as well! You can do this with candles, lighted wreaths, or even mini-table lamps can add a whole new lighted dimension!

This time of year I really love candles, and light them every night after the kids go to bed. Yes, I go through a lot of tea lights! But it’s a great way to unwind, enjoy a a glass of wine and take time to read. A fire in the fireplace is just a bonus!
At Christmastime, I take it up a notch with a lighted wreath – the kids love it, and it casts a nice glow on the room.

Thanks Bella. I love mantels because they are never done…and there’s always a holiday on the horizon!
