Thrive with a Morning Routine Designed for You

Imagine starting your day feeling refreshed, focused, and ready to take on anything. When we “fall back” for Daylight Savings and gain that extra hour, why not use it to invest in a morning routine that centers on self-care and growth? This small shift could be the first step toward thriving every day.

Make It Simple: Split the Difference

What if you didn’t sleep that extra hour away but instead split it? Sleeping in for 30 minutes and using the other 30 minutes for self-care creates an energizing routine that feels doable. A small commitment like this can help turn mornings into a time that’s truly yours.

How I Found a Morning Routine that Fits

I was inspired by The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, which suggests a routine built on “S.A.V.E.R.S.”—Silence, Affirmation, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, and Scribing (journaling).

But the key to success? Customizing it for your life. Here’s my personal take on it:

This 30-minute routine sets the tone for my day without taking over my morning. It leaves me feeling like I can thrive through the day, ready to take on whatever comes next.

Meditation (10 minutes): I grab my coffee and settle in with a short meditation on Headspace or Peloton.

Affirmation & Visualization (5 minutes): I scroll a Pinterest board full of quotes and images that remind me why I’m doing this.

Journaling (5 minutes): Just a few lines in my calendar about how I’m feeling.

Movement (5 minutes): A quick spin on the bike or treadmill, or an upbeat song for five minutes of dancing.

Stretching (5 minutes): A few stretches to wake up fully, using yoga flashcards for ideas.

Tips to Stick with It

  • Try a wake-up light to simulate natural sunrise and help ease you out of sleep.
  • Make your bed as soon as you get up to feel instantly productive.
  • Hydrate with a glass of lemon water before that first coffee.
  • Get everything ready the night before, so mornings feel effortless.

Discover Your Own Morning Rhythm

The key is to discover what works for you. I do my reading and full workout in the evening. On weekends, I sometimes extend the routine, but even on busy weekdays, this habit has transformed my mindset. Creating a morning rhythm that’s uniquely yours is the key—it doesn’t need to be perfect, just intentional. With that, you can bring more purpose and calm into your day, living simply and thriving every step of the way.
