Once upon a time, there was an old night table. As the years went by, it was overlooked and offered with no design personality of its own. Then one day, its owners moved to Newtown, and created a pink and green guest room (inspired by a family heirloom antique chair) that needed a little extra zing.
Or is that bling?
Anyway, it finally got a chance at center stage with a new, two-toned painted furniture job with a couple unexpected twists. Adding a splash of pink and some acid-free paper inside the drawer brought it to life and out of the corner.
The happy ending to this story is that this all happened without spending a dime! The green paint was already in the workroom from a previous school project, and the pink paint was mixed to match a sheet of acid free paper.
I cannot claim this idea myself, I was inspired by this peek-a-boo piece of painted furniture at the Design on a Dime benefit earlier this year. I love the splash of color where you least expect it.
The night table ties in nicely with my grandmother’s antique embroidered chair.
Now I’m thinking of rearranging the room so this little hard-working piece of furniture can shine!
Nobody puts a pretty piece of furniture in the corner!
