Last night’s Housing Works 9th Annual Design on a Dime reception benefit event in NYC was a huge success. 1,400 lucky ticket holders enjoyed advanced access to the 3 day charitable shopping event (at 50 to 70% off retail) to raise funds for Housing Works’ homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS.
Note to self: take the gratuitous self portrait shot at the BEGINNING of an event, not after! After touring 62 designer vignettes and taking over 200 photo’s, I was tired and inspired.
I was thrilled to bring along Kelly Plunkett, owner of 2nd Chance Restoration to help me cover more ground.
Dressed in signature orange (so could find each other in a crowd) we took on Design on a Dime with a mix of awe and photo-journalism discipline. The crowd of designers and enthusiasts quickly grew, and there was a certain competitive excitement in the air as deals were snatched up by eager buyers.
Not only was it eye candy overload, it was a who’s who of design, and awesome settings for photo’s with friends.
Speaking of who’s who – wow. I can’t believe the celebrity talent we saw. Sabrina Soto and Evette Rios were so amazingly friendly to talk to. And obviously, they enjoyed catching up with each other as well.
With their busy schedules they probably don’t get many opportunities to catch up.
Genevieve Gorder graced the halls as well (sorry, this is the best photo I could get – she moves fast, and in awesome shoes).
The lovely Lara Spencer from my FAVORITE show Flea Market Flip was there as well, representing One King’s Lane. We didn’t see her at her vignette so Kelly stepped in for the photo. Nice job, Kelly!
Color was everywhere! Valspar wall colors were generously donated for each vignette, and even gave some style to the bev naps.
Just about everything was for sale. Even signed Vodka Bottles. Don’t you just love these napkins?
And thanks again Kelly, for tricking me into eating a smoked cricket before I down the shot of tequila at the Cooking For Others vignette.
Whew. What a night. I’m inspired by the variety of styles I saw all in one venue, and noticed some fascinating trends, which I’ll share in future posts here at YHOB.
