The Design Plan
I immediately knew what I wanted and designed the room in my mind in just a few minutes:
- Blush pink ceiling with white crown molding and a funky light fixture
- Cool and warm neutral tones throughout
Minimalism Vibes
This is not a large room, so it needed to have focused purpose. Sleep! A worthy goal. I had to to reduce distractions by only including things that have a practical purpose or spark joy (my loop hole). I consider myself a “budding minimalist” – I have a long way to go, but I’m enjoying the journey and minimizing a little at a time.
But First, About That Pink Ceiling…
I received a few odd looks when I told friends I was painting my ceiling pink. Really??? Yes, really. I chose Benjamin Moore Pink Bliss for the fifth wall, and selected a Possini ceiling light from Lamps Plus. The walls are a very pale gray, and it all pops with crown molding.
Room Functionality
There are only a few activities this room needed to support: sleep, getting dressed, and reading/meditating. The dresser (from West Elm) hosts just a jewelry box, a simple fan, and a lamp.
I scored that lamp at HomeGoods clearance for $25 years ago. #winning
I spend a lot of time in this reading corner – the chair and bar cart both came from HomeGoods.
To keep it simple, I only keep a reading light, candle, plant and notebook on the bedroom bar cart. I store my favorite books below for quick access.
There is more going on with this night table than you might think. It’s a convenient landing place for nighttime essentials, a charging station, and it stores my vitamins and supplements so I have no excuse to forget. The pillows below actually hide ugly cords and blocks the charging light that illuminates at night.
An acrylic tray contains nighttime essentials, and I appreciate the visual reminder every morning to do something I love!
Before and After Shots
Because we all love before and after shots – here you go! (I’ll post about that hideous bathroom another day).
I forgot to mention earlier, but the carpet was replaced as well.
If you read my post about the Rec Room, you’ll see that this room is located right behind it.
You may have noticed the unconventional wall sconces on either side of the bed. They spark joy for me, and save counter space (win-win).
This post is part of the renovation series, as introduced in the “My As-is Home, Only Better” post. I’m excited to share with you. To keep up with the journey, make sure you’re signed up!
