Hooking Up Kids Rooms For School

I’m a practical mom.  So when it was time to send the kiddos off to 3rd grade and Pre-K, I tweaked their carefree summer rooms a bit in hopes of helping them get ready faster in the mornings and to inspire them to do homework.  Ok, so maybe I’ll settle for just getting them out the door with no tears. lol

For little-miss-Pre-K, I added a couple wall hooks for her backpack and next-day’s outfit.  I also found this darling (inexpensive) clip on lamp for night time reading.  (Do you recognize this room? It’s from this previous blog post about the transition to a non-princess pink room).

My fussy 3rd grader really wanted a new chair in her room for reading and studying (so she says).  Rather than buy a new one, I brought up a big pink chair from the basement (from her pink phase) and simply covered it with a $7 blue throw blanket.  (Recognize this room? It’s from this blog post about 3 designs of a girls room).

She also wanted a fancy lap desk. Instead, we compromised with a fun clip board, clip-on light and soft pillow.  She loves it (and it cost much less than the big fancy lap desks).

And, being a big hook fan, she has hooks by her door for her back pack, clothes, etc.  Bonus – by keeping back packs in their rooms, the mud room is much easier to maintain.  Especially when the hats and mittens season hits (shudder!).

What adjustments have you made for back-to-school?
