Holiday Home Tour Sans the Tree

Holiday Home Tour Sans the Tree @Yourhomeonlybetter

The tree is a staple of Christmas – the heralded symbol that hosts the star or angel on its highest peak. In our home, decorating the tree is a special time of togetherness, and at times, compromise. But, alas, ours is not up yet! We opted for a much-needed vacation last week, and the tree will have to wait til later in the week. But I won’t let that stop me from sharing this year’s Holiday Home Tour.

I did sneak in some easy non-tree decor while I’m waiting for my tree-people to have time. If you too are procrastinating on your tree, perhaps a few easy decor tips will tide you over.

The Living Room

The tree will go in the back left corner, purposely cropped out of this shot. Let’s go in a little closer, shall we? This pillow makes me smile. The Santa hat makes it festive. How simple is that?

The two end tables (refurbished and blogged about here) were practically begging for winter-scape vignettes! Here I put three metal trees together that I’ve collected over the years. The tree pillow tops it off nicely.

Here’s a closer look at the trees. Each was a gift!

For the other end table, I created a collection based on color, with a little gold thrown in.

For the centerpiece on the glass coffee table, all I did was add a wreath and a pine candle. Took about 45 seconds!

We may not have a tree yet, but we do have a live wreath hanging from the curtain rod! Such an easy way to bring in the scent of the season!

The Family Room

This room is now adjoined to the kitchen (as blogged about here), and this is the first Christmas we’ve had furniture intended for this room. The scarf garland will match the other two that are waiting for the tree (picked those up from Crate and Barrel).

The pillows (from HomeGoods) brought this room to life! Here is sofa #1:

And sofa #2:

Hi, my name is Susan, and I’m addicted to ambient lighting.

This is the first year for my green metal tree (see, I have a tree after all!)

I don’t know why, but I chose to decorate it with pig ornaments.

The Kitchen

I swoon over festive kitchens in magazines decked out for Christmas, but to be honest, I prefer something more simple for real life. This is a hard-working room, and our accents are already red. A few candles and a red deer got the job done without creating clutter!

The Dog

While the dog will not tolerate costumes or outfits of any kind, she sure has a knack for wrapping herself up in cozy blankets, and sort of looking like a Santa Paws.

Merry Christmas everyone! And if your tree is not yet up, that’s OK. Just throw a little cheer where you can – there are no rules!
