Enjoy this inspirational guest post from Jessica, a fabulous designer from the Balsam Hill Tree company. I love a great “do’s and don’ts” post – especially about seasonal decor! ~Susan
The rich colors of fall inspire even novice home decorators to take on a new project, and we at Balsam Hill Tree Company really get into the feel of the season, because it transitions into our favorite holiday, Christmas!

There is something romantic about a porch. Writing A Pretty Porch with a Purpose post got me inspired to get my own porch spruced up.
But after updating eight rooms inside over the past four months, I’m low on funds and energy for this project. So I did what any sensible girl would do…I shopped in my own home. The garage, the basement, and those mysterious boxes that never quite got unpacked (who knew!).

We all love porches, right? But why…what do we actually use them for? Here are a few thoughts:
- Drinking morning coffee or a twilight glass of {fill in the blank}
- Socializing with friends and family, or, just talking on the phone
- Quiet time: read, do crossword puzzles, Sudoku, etc.
- Napping {sigh}
- Bird watching
- Playing board games
- Grilling
- Eating!
- Doing nothing.
Don’t have a porch? No worries…whether or not you have a porch, you can still incorporate my porch-like features into your outdoor spaces. Just start with decide what activities you want to do there.
My favorite inspirational porch designs. Enjoy!
