I wonder what my neighbors really think!

I love flowers. But sometimes, it’s fun to do something a bit different. With Thanksgiving and Christmas on the immediate horizon, I turned my tablescape thoughts to the produce section of my local grocer.

I found three creative ways to use veggies in décor: 1) with candles, 2) with flowers, and 3) simply on their own. Not only do these elements play well with each other, but there are so many creative ways to display them. Here are a few of my favorites!

1. Vegetables and Candles

I love the simplistic yet functional display of these candles and veggies. The ribbon gives it just the right splash of color.

Just when I think I’m done with my annual Halloween post, I find another idea to try!

But I seriously need help coming up with a good name for these – they remind me of traffic cones stuck in mud. They’re essentially a variation of “dots” – round pretzels with melted Hershey Kisses and M&Ms. Just for fun, I decided to make them with candy corn. And since I couldn’t find the round pretzels, I opted for the waffle/grid shaped ones.

I’m at it again. Sharing yet another quick and easy chicken recipe. This time, for the grill!

This one was extra convenient because I was rushing at the new-to-me grocery store and could not find the marinade aisle (grrrr). As luck would have it, my always-hungry husband had just emailed me a new recipe to try (don’t know where he found this one).

So I tried it. It’s very easy , and very tasty!

First, the very few ingredients (which you probably already have on hand):

Champagne “Date Night” Chicken

I remember the first dinner my now-husband ever cooked for me. Champagne Chicken. I was so impressed, and it never dawned on my that I probably wasn’t the first date he’d ever cooked this dish for. Water under the bridge…let’s just say it was effective and I married him. Since I only share recipes here [...]

The Best Verde Turkey Enchiladas Ever!

My husband has caught on that I’m editing the “Entertaining Tips {for the rest of us}” series here on YHOB. So now he’s searching for recipes for me to try. Can’t blame him, really. He’s got skin in the game. As an avid fisherman and blogger at finfollower.com, he constantly trolls fishing sites – especially [...]

Peppermint Holiday Cocktails (plus a gift idea)

It all started with a fun gift idea for some diva friends… “everything but the booze” for some fun, peppermint holiday refreshments. I wanted to include some festive drink recipes along with the gift set so I did some intensive research and found these four pretty amazing recipes. Although I haven’t tried them all (yet), [...]

A Tree-less Christmas

I’m not putting up a Christmas tree this year. There. I said it. No, I’m not skipping Christmas. But we’re moving shortly afterwards and I’m simply out of holiday bandwith to make it happen. But with kids in the house, I have to make SOMETHING happen, so I’m letting our mantel display serve as our [...]

Thai Chicken Satay: Great at Parties

A dear friend of mine from my Midwest era always threw great parties. They were a balance between casual and polished. Her winning strategy was to invite guests to bring a dish, and she then provided a few favorites of her own. Because she was able to keep costs and hassles down with this format, [...]
