It’s that time of year. Time to dig deep into your closet and find a fabulous dress to wear for your upcoming holiday parties!

And surely you’re organizing your closet while you’re in there, right? I just dove into my closet for a seasonal tune-up this week, and realized that I don’t have a fresh holiday dress. So I’m on the hunt for the perfect dress.

Shabby Apple dress sketchI just LOVE dresses. Just like my 6 year old daughter, I love the way they flow when I twirl and how I feel in them. You’re never too old to play dress up!

Sure, dresses are timelessly flirty, feminine and fun. But there is a practical side as well.

  1. There is nothing to coordinate
  2. You can easily change up the look with accessories

How September 11th Changed Me

by Susan on September 10, 2011

in Chit Chat

american flagI didn’t personally know anyone who lost their life on September 11, 2001. But I cried along with those who lost loved ones, just the same.

I didn’t see the burning buildings with my own eyes. But I’ll never forget the images on TV or the burning smell from my NJ office 30 miles away.

Flat Stanley Visits Mom’s Blog

by Susan on May 22, 2011

in Chit Chat

Hi – My mom writes this blog. My last class (where we just moved from) sent me a Flat Stanley.  Not only did Flat Stanley visit our pool, he found his way onto Mom’s blog (shhh, she’s in the other room).  Bet she wishes that she didn’t teach me how to blog – ha ha ha. She really should change her login password once in awhile. LOL

Flat Stanley

Oh, and in case you don’t know who Flat Stanley is, it’s a community building project that promotes literacy all over the world. You can learn more at the official Flat Stanley Project website.

Thanks for listening – 100th Post!

by Susan on February 28, 2010

in Chit Chat

February may be a short month, but that’s no excuse for waiting til the 11th hour to squeak in a post! Yes I’ve been busy (isn’t everyone?), but that’s not why it’s taken me so long to post.  Actually I have several reasons:

  • This is my 100th post, and yes…I felt the pressure to make it something SPECIAL!
  • I’ve been busy redesigning the “Your home, only better.” blog to better reflect the spirit of what this site is about (I hope you like it!).
  • I’m also working on the “next big thing” for HOMEdigz, the online community I run for home enthusiast (coming soon!).

Ok, enough excuses. I really want to take this opportunity to thank the many readers and bloggers who have inspired me and kept me going. I write this blog from my heart, and hope that in some small way it touches you and inspires you to make your home the best it can be, and uniquely your own.

To celebrate this 100th post, I’d like to share some of my FAVORITE images I’ve used here on YHOB over the past year – this is what my house would look like if I had a do-over! Enjoy the eye candy! (pssst…click on the image to see the related post).

This is my dream bedroom – especially if it comes with an ocean view! Love the charcoal/lime throw on the bed!

Confessions of a Curious Driver

by Susan on October 20, 2009

in Chit Chat

For the past year or two I’ve taken notice of a blue colonial on my street that I pass daily. I’m not sure if it was the house itself, or the perpetual renovation action around it. Dumpsters out front, various contractor trucks coming and going.

And seriously, this wonderment went on for a long time.   In some places it may have been acceptable to knock on the door, introduce yourself as a nosey neighbor. But not here in Connecticut (lol). So I just let my imagination run wild.

Well, I finally found out what was going on.  They just put it on the market, and I LOVE it!   And not just because it matches my favorite vintage beach blue fan I gushed about in an earlier post (although that may have something to do with it). Not only does that house have history (our street was named after the family that lived here in the 1800′s), but it’s beautifully renovated with modern amenities while retaining it’s character.

First, here’s the outside. Very colonial, yet the color makes it a bit playful.
