Best of Summer 2009 (so far)

by Susan Jensen Smith on July 30, 2009

August is knocking on the door, but I’m not falling for that old trick of preparing for a new school season just yet.  It’s still summer according to my calendar and quite frankly, I’m not done with it yet!

For me, summer provides so much inspiration for my home – from the colors to the casual feel.  Guess I know why green is my favorite color. ;)

So here are some photos I’ve taken this summer to visually illustrate what summer means to me (so far!).  I’m going to print them out and frame them as a collage over acid-free paper to help me get through the winter.

Adirondack chairs make me smile:

Nothing says summer (or nap) like a hammock!

Remember those old drive-in movies?

I love the sound of the water and the colors of the kayaks:

Friends and bikes.  It’s all good!

Ok, this one is from last summer (didn’t make it to the beach yet this year)

What says “Summer” to you?  And do you have a last hurrah planned?

Summer means hot days and long lazy evenings spent outdoors with friends and a bottle of chilled rose; visits to the clam shack for fresh seafood and homemade gelato; running carelessly into the surf and spending hot afternoons lying under shady trees in the park with a novel.
(Well, most summers, that is. This summer means umbrellas and wellington boots and moss everyhere…)

The “school’s out” feeling never goes away. And down here, never feeling even the slighted chill except in the movie theater.

Jane – well said! I hear ya about the umbrellas, etc. Got drenched dropping kid #1 at camp today. Oh the insanity!

Terry – I may have to live vicariously through you if the weather situation up here doesn’t improve soon! Meanwhile, keep a sweater handy for the theaters and enjoy!

Wonderful photos! The kayaks, in particular, make me want to print them out and hang them on my wall! I love the Adirondack chairs too.
