Hi, I’m Susan Jensen Smith, home enthusiast geek. I live in northern New Jersey with my husband and two young daughters. I started the “Your home, only better” (YHOB) blog as a fun place to write about things I enjoy. The (rather long) name started out as the tag line for my local home staging and interior redesign business, but has taken on a life of its own.
I have a knack for being thrifty, and a strong belief that your home should be the place where you can relax, be yourself, and cut loose. It’s where you unwind, host parties, and manage the many details of day-to-day life. Have some fun with it! I subscribe to the Dorothy Draper attitude that decorating and entertaining is FUN and that anyone can do it.
I love writing about practical tips for decorating, entertaining and organizing. And after receiving many requests for guest posts, have recently added a home improvement section. And since most of us are working on one room at a time, I try to pull everything together by room to help you find applicable ideas more quickly.
We recently bought the ugliest house on the market, so many of the posts journals the (budgeted) transformation of rather challenging rooms. Other posts are inspired from the many design magazines I pour over (catnip to me) or a personal quest to find a practical solution to a design or organizing problem.
