When it comes to kitchens, are we playing it too safe?  Whatever happened to big, bold color expressions right smack dab in the heart of the home?  No apologies!

For those with no fear of color, there is a company in Colorado named Big Chill, and they’ve made a business out of pairing modern technology with vintage 50’s charm.  They make refrigerators, stoves and dishwashers (www.bigchillfridge.com).

My Dream Kitchen

If I had my dream kitchen, would I cook better?  ;)

Who among us hasn’t drooled over a kitchen in a Hollywood movie, or taken mental notes of a friend’s to-die-for kitchen.  I just wanted to share my ideas for my dream kitchen with you {sigh}.  I call it “Modern Bungalow.”

Now picture this (with the help of a few inspiration photos):

Dark soapstone counter tops with white cabinets– several with paned glass fronts to display a colorful Fiestaware collection. Breakfast bar and/or an island with ample room for seating.  Below is a home from a TLC project, and a nice assortment of Fiestaware.

Most little girls will want a pink bedroom at some point in their early lives.  Here’s a redesign project where a four year old girl reached a compromise with mom.  A pink room, but without any princess influence.

Doable?  Absolutely. For under $200? You bet.

The strategy was to let pink be pink, but anchor it with earthier brown, and use accessories to bring in a subtle bohemian bird theme.

Without further adieu, here are the before and after pictures (details and costs of what we did are at the end of this post)
